Hair Transplant Surgery in Thailand – Mornington, VIC

What Is a Hair Transplant?

Simple!!! “a surgery that can make you feel more attractive, more youthful, happier and confident and overall sense of better well-being”

We have arranged thousands of successful hair surgeries and without exception we suggest that the above description could describe absolutely every Thai hair surgery patient that we have helped. Logically if you improve your self whether surgery or even new clothes then you will feel better in yourself so do not hesitate.

From a surgical point of view a Hair Transplant in its simplest is taking hair bearing skin from one part of your head, dividing the follicles up and simply regrowing them where you are bald or thinning.

Hair surgery is the least intrusive of all the surgeries we arrange and from start to finish the procedure can be over in a handful of days and you can then be jetting back home.

Hair Transplants: What to Expect

Prior to travelling and in discussion with our company and our surgeons will clarify exactly how much you should expect to pay / how many hair grafts you require / how long you need to stay overseas / answer any questions you have including how you will feel post surgery and importantly when you will see new hair ‘sprouting’.

When you leave your home, for your overseas surgery, you will know which surgeon, where you are going , your treatment plan and the cost.  Absolutely no surprises or hidden extras.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Hair Transplant?

Our surgeon’s consideration of your particular case (review your head photos) is the best way to ensure your candidacy as a hair surgery patient however some of the considerations of that our surgeons will consider  are listed below:-

Good Hair Candidates

  • You must have realistic expectations.
  • Exhibit standard hair loss  ie:  progressive loss of hair / typical hair loss is called pattern baldness
Pattern baldness candidates are the ideal candidate for hair surgery.
  • If you have already lost a lot of hair we need to ensure the donour area has adequate supply of hair in order to complete surgery.
ie: there has to be a significant amount of existing hair on the back of your head / above your ears
  • Typically patients with thick / curly hair will have the best outcome ie: the thick /curly hair more easily covers the bald area.
  • Patients over 30 years of age as at this age the hair pattern / loss is established
  • If your family has a history of hair loss – speak to us now !
  • Patients where baldness is in a particular spot and the baldness has been caused by some type of trauma to the area

Who are NOT Good Hair Surgery Candidates

  • Patients that suffer from Alopecia = uneven hair loss are typically patients with poor donour areas and not good candidates for surgery
  • Teenagers are NOT a good candidates for hair transplant
Conducting a hair graft at ‘too young an age’ may mean there is not adequate donour hair available if any future surgery is required It is suggested that teenagers consult their local GP, in the first instance, to investigate natural approaches to hair loss or even medication
  • Patients suffering from some type of ailment to the donour area ie: they do not have a good supply of donour hair – commonly women
  • Patient where the hair is thin and not dense

What Happens During Hair Transplant?

Hair transplant surgery is a simple procedure.
You should not feel pain during surgery and you can very quickly obtain a dramatic improvement and be heading back home to an improved life.

As surgery is not particularly intrusive there is no need to have a general anesthesia. You will be provided with local anesthesia

  1. As with any surgery it is essential that area of surgery is thoroughly cleaned prior to surgery commencing
  2. There are two types of hair procefure – FUE and FUT. With both FUE and FUT procedures there is minimal shaving of the surgery areaWith FUE hair harvestings the surgeon may shave a layer of hair however Hair surrounding and above the donour area can cover the area that has been shaved. For small procedures it may not be necessary to shave head at all.
  3. Your surgeon will cut a strip of skin / hair follicles, from the donour area. The donour area is typically about 5  – 7 cm long
  4. The strip of hair, under a microscope, is then separated into small sections
  5. The thinning or bald area is treated so as you have hundreds of very tiny holes which implants can be placed in
  6. The small sections are then meticulously ‘planted’ in your thinning or bald area ie: in the tinny holes
  7. Bandages will be applied to your head prior to leaving
  8. After surgery you will be asked to wait an hour or so whilst medication wears off and then you will return to your hotel
  9. PST can arrange transport to your hotel or you can ask the doctors rooms to help you with a taxi
  10. Generally the full hair surgery will be completed in one session. If you require a ‘mega’ graft it may be recommended for the total surgery to be completed over two sessions
  11. Usually you will be prescribed antibiotics so as to avoid any infection post-surgery
You will be prescribed pain killers to stop any post-surgery pain and usually also prescribed medication to prevent any head swelling, as a result of surgery
You may be required to wear a ‘tennis head band’ , for a day or two, in order to also stop swelling
  12. Whilst you are overseas a follow up appointment will be made for you to return in a few days for hair wash and for your surgeon to check all is ok

How do I Choose a Plastic Surgeon for a Hair Transplant

  • Obviously you want a properly qualified and significantly experienced surgeon – Our surgeons all have significant experience and qualifications and we have had literally hundreds of successful surgeries with them over many yearsUsing PST has exactly the same cost as booking directly yourself hence we suggest you use our nearly 20 years of experience in Thailand and obtain our  assistance in finding one of Thailand’s leading surgeons for your operation
  • A major consideration when choosing a surgeon is to ensure he / she actually does the graft implants and not a technician Of late we have noticed many European companies and some Asian have doctors consulting with patients and technicians conducting the implants! Obviously a surgeon with years of study and experience will provide a better outcome Ask who does your implants before procceding !
  • Many patients assume the surgical outcome will be the same no matter what surgeon is used however this is DEFINITELY NOT the case as well as your surgeon’s experience effecting the outcome the equipment your surgeon utilise can also make a significant difference ie: Transection Rate (TX) is the rate of hair grafts being cut or damaged during graft extraction (removing hair graft from the donor area).

Industry standard at a recent International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery World Congress stated 10% is acceptable.
eg:         pay for 2000 grafts  =   1800 or more survive ( 10% damage rate)

We can access surgeons that use the latest WAW FUE SYSTEM which is praised as one of the best FUE Hair Equipment  available in the world.   It is called a hybrid punch which reduces TX rate significantly and produces excellent  graft quality. Quite simply it has a higher success rate as the instrument’s smooth funnel shape and overall design is gentler and less traumatic on the skin With our very experienced surgeons we been achieving a less than 3%  TX rate !

eg:
Non WAW FUE equipment            pay for 2000 grafts                         1800 or more survive ( 10% damage rate)
WAW FUE equipment                    pay for 2000 grafts                         1940 or more survive

The more surviving grafts the more dense your result will be and the better you will look

Hair Transplant Cost and Fees

The cost of your surgery will be vary according to the number of grafts you require. There is a sliding scale with the graft cost reducing the more grafts you obtain

On average surgery cost is $5- $8,000 compared to exactly the same surgery at home being $15,000 to $24,000 – a huge saving and equally as good surgery outcome as at home! Our cost estimate also includes all medications and consultations and absolutely no surprise cost.

If you contact us today we can provide an exact cost estimate for you and recommendation for surgery.

Hair Transplant Risk, Expectations and Recovery

  • Pain
All patients will experience post surgery pain however this can be controlled with the anti- inflammatory & pain control medication that will be provided by your surgeon. With FUT surgery the pain is more than FUE surgery because method used in strip harvesting follicles. Small breaks from surgery can be provided in order to assist you

Most hotels also have ice making machines hence ask hotel upon arrival to your hotel)

As you may know from experiencing a simple cut the wound can become itchy and this, in some cases, can be the case in the donor and recipient areas. Antihistamines are often recommended for this – refer your doctor.
